Looking Back on 2007

Posted by Brian

Welcome to FanBox! The friendliest community on the web. We have devoted an enormous amount of time, energy, and care into building one of today's most innovative websites. The social network aspect of FanBox stands out the most, but it has many great new features as mentioned in previous blogs which make it even easier to keep in contact with those you care about.

As we come to the end of '07 and look forward to a great '08, it's always nice to look back on the year and remember those that mattered most in it. I was watching my favorite movie over the holiday Frank Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life." The movie is a great reminder to us all, showing the impact we have on people's lives. Coincidentally it has one of my favorite quotes as well; "No man is a failure who has friends."

Here at FanBox we value the many friendships and even a few marriages that have happened because of the FanBox community website.

As thousands of members continue to join daily we look forward to sharing all FanBox has to offer you, your family, and friends. We hope you soon realize that FanBox is indeed the friendliest community on the web and you have more friends because of it.

So thank you to everyone in the FanBox community for making 2007 a memorable year for us all.

Now let's go make 2008 an historic year for us all to look back on and remember.

Warm Regards,
Brian

R.A.C.E. to the New Year

Here at FanBox, we strive for R.A.C.E., which stands for Radically Awesome Customer Experience. Over the past few months, we've eliminated several bugs that have allowed you to enjoy your experience on FanBox. In addition to fixing bugs on the site, we monitor the suggestion tool to gather and rank your ideas and requests. That's right! You set the priorities for FanBox. That's what I call R.A.C.E. Make sure to vote for suggestions so we can accurately prioritize your suggestions.

And because of your votes in the suggestion tool, we're happy to announce our new and improved Who's Online application which will be launching shortly. We're also adding a couple of features you've entered from the suggestion tool. Check them out:

Search by Country - You have the choice to view and chat with online users from all countries or a specific country.

Controlling Online Status - Receive IM messages when you want by setting your online status to appear online or offline.

On behalf of the FanBox Team, I'd like to thank you for your suggestions and patience. You can expect more exciting products and enhancements as we head towards 2008.

Happy Holidays!

- Victor

My Files Anywhere

The FanBox community is growing by the day and one of the fastest growing features on FanBox is the My Files Anywhere client. My Files Anywhere gives you the ability to upload your files online and access your files from any computer with an internet connection. All of your files will instantly become accessible on the FanBox File Network from anywhere; whether you are at home, at school, work or at an Internet café, you will be able to access, edit and share your files with your friends.

The FanBox File Network is split into two categories: public access and private access. As you would expect, this includes files that will be available for both private use and public use. Public accessed files can be shared with your friends or anyone on FanBox. You can see all of your friend’s shared files – but not their private files.

Now you and your friends can share and comment on your photos, collaborate on ideas for a paper, listen to the latest songs or watch the hottest videos. But most importantly, you can access your files anywhere. You are no longer locked to your PC desktop.

Download the My Files Anywhere client and enjoy the freedom.

White Elephant

Well, last night it was on. We had our annual Holiday Party. The highlight was certainly the White Elephant Gift exchange (also known as "Yankee Swap" or "Dirty Santa"). For some reason the alcohol always seems to get stolen first and last night was no different. The poster of Captain Jack Sparrow, Beers from Around the World, and the "Wild Turkey" changed hands quickly. Somebody scored a MP3 player and then suddenly disappeared with it! I have no idea how this gift was under $15.

Parties aside, we have some new updates rolling out today that should really enhance the user experience. Check out the product and keep the feedback rolling in.

Also, as the HR guy, I am always preaching goals. Don't forget to write down your 2008 goals (yes, that means you).

Happy Holidays!

Getting more out of the FanBox Community

Have you checked out the Community Files folder on your FanBox Desktop? Inside are all the FanBox users who have made their favorite music, videos, photos, and documents available to anyone in the FanBox Community... guess what? That's you!

Inside the Community Files folder you will find hundreds of users, all with something great to offer! Each user has their profile photo associated with their folder and is identified by their username. To open someone's folder, simply double-click it. It will look just like you are browsing through your own files on your desktop!

To copy files or folders from other users, you can right-click on the file/folder and select 'Copy' or simply drag and drop it onto your desktop. Easy, right?

You can also feel free to spread some Holiday cheer and offer some of your favorite music, videos, and other files to the FanBox community! To do so, right-click on any file or folder and select 'Share'.

Happy Holidays,
JT

Interoperable IM

JennaDo you love to chat online with your friends and family? FanBox recently released an exciting product that allows you to easily instant message your online buddies from your web-based desktop! No need to download the America Online or MSN chat programs to your computer; FanBox has four popular IM programs all wrapped into one!

This new feature is called the Interoperable Instant Messenger. Although AOL, MSN, Yahoo, and Google have amassed millions of customers onto their IM services, their networks remain relatively exclusive. This is where FanBox’s interoperability comes into play!

The definition of interoperable is “pertaining to systems that work together or communicate.” In other words, FanBox’s interoperable IM is four programs in one. You can even be logged in to all four chatting programs at the same time! This functionality lets you talk with all your online friends, across multiple programs, instantly!

We hope this feature helps you easily stay in touch with your friends and family around the globe!

Warm regards,
Jenna

Seasons greetings!

Well, it’s been a long journey, but finally! FanBox is here, and we couldn’t be more excited to show you everything we’ve been working on. We guarantee that there’s something for everyone, and I know YOU will find what you’re looking for!

What I love most about FanBox is how accessible it is. With the 2 free Gigs of storage space, you can save virtually any type of file to your FanBox desktop. A few clicks of the mouse, and you’re ready to go! I mean, think about it: you can access your files, pictures, music, and videos from anywhere in the world! I don’t know about you, but I am thrilled to hear that I no longer need my computer when I travel; it will give me some extra room in my luggage for souvenirs =)

There are so many things to discover on FanBox, and we would love to hear your comments and suggestions about how we can make it even better. So, tell your friends, tell your family, tell everyone about FanBox and share the fun!

Lots of love,
Brandie

Making the Most of the Web

Greetings all! As we approach the holiday season with thoughts of gifts, vacation, and relaxing for a few days, it's always handy to find ways to liven up your time on the web (a favorite vacation spot of everyone here on the FanBox team).

In today's post, we'll look at a few of the ways that FanBox can make your time fly by.

  • Applications and Games - Whether you're an avid gamer, eager newsfeed reader, or overly idle individual, we've got tons of apps ready to enjoy. Better yet, when using an app on your desktop you can click the maximize button to view it full screen (highly recommended!)

  • Blog - One of the staples of the web today, blogging is a great way to keep in touch with all your fans, friends, and family. On FanBox, you'll immediately know whenever your fans update thanks to FanFare and Blog update notifications.

  • Instant Messenger - Even if you're stuck traveling, as long as you can find a computer with web access, FanBox lets you chat with any of your friends on MSN, AIM, Gtalk, and Yahoo. Don't feel like chatting directly? Leave them a comment or personal message instead.

  • If you have any thoughts on features to add, or anything else you'd love for FanBox to do for you, let us know using Suggest!
